Unveiling Internalized Patriarchal Beliefs

From childhood to adulthood, many women unconsciously absorb societal messages about their roles, limitations, and expectations. These beliefs, often inherited without question, shape how we navigate our lives, our bodies, and our ambitions. This reflection exercise invites you to explore and challenge the patriarchal restrictions you have internalized.

  • What were you taught—explicitly or implicitly—about what it means to be a “good” woman? Who benefited from these beliefs?

  • Can you recall a moment when you hesitated to pursue something you wanted because it was deemed “inappropriate” for women? How did it make you feel?

  • Have you ever silenced yourself or made yourself smaller to avoid being labeled as “too much”? Where did this conditioning come from?

  • In what ways have patriarchal norms influenced your views on your body, appearance, or sexuality?

  • If you could unlearn one deeply ingrained belief about being a woman, what would it be? How would your life change without it?
